How I see it

Hi,

I'm new to all this blogging stuff but quite interested to see how it all works. I think I'll start with a diary and running commentary of my view of the world, as a New Yorker living in the UK.

Ok, just did my profile, may be of interest to some.

Glad it's Friday. Taking the kid's to a friend's party tonight, with lots of teens from church. Hoping to go out with my wife to catch a film. Not sure what we'll see as I'm not overly impressed with what's out there. 90% rubbish really. Maybe Batman as that may be good or the Fantastic Four.

As Latter Day Saints, we try to live a certain standard which means we avoid most of what Hollyweird has to offer. We try to avoid films with nudity/sex, drugs, crime, swearing, etc. so it leaves very little of real quality. Sadly this is the stuff most of the western world thinks is cool but then they wonder why the world is in such a terrible state. At least in the US, more people are willing to take a stand against this stuff because of their religious background or just plain morality but in the UK, effectively a Godless country, very few people care. Sad but Thank goodness we have the Gospel of Jesus Christ to support us as we seek to avoid the evils of the world.

Not to worry. I am greatly blessed to have a great family, the best job I've ever had (after years of searching) and a good life overall. But I sure have concerns about a number of things, as do most people. I'll use this space to rant occasionally.

We saw "The Island" with Ewan Macgregor. Not bad, kind of a remake of Logan's Run but too man hand-held camera shake - car chase - explosion scenes.

What's with Cricket? England builds up a terrific lead over Austrailia and the 3-day game ends that way. But it's considered a tie (draw) as England didn't get all the Aussie batsmen out. What? Stupid rule. Good grief, leave it to the Brits to invent a politically correct game where no one wins! Give me baseball any day.

Wonderful evening last night. My 14 year old daugfhter received her patriarchal blessing. A very spiritual experience for us all. She's very excited that Heavenly Father is able to give her such direct guidance.
